Student Scholarships and Awards

Mater Research offers a number of scholarships and awards for honours, MPhil and PhD students that are exclusively available to Mater Research students. We also offer a competitive top-up on eligible scholarships. The scholarships we offer can provide financial assistance for project work as well as the opportunity to attend or present at scientific and health meetings in Australia or overseas.

Frank Clair Scholarship for PhD students

Mater Research offers the Frank Clair Scholarship to PhD students who have obtained a competitive external scholarship and satisfy the eligibility criteria:

  1. You must be enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) at The University of Queensland
  2. You must hold a fully funded competitive external scholarship
  3. Your principal advisor is a member of Mater Research and have an appointment FTE of at least 0.5 at Mater Research.

Student Travel Awards

Each year, Mater Research invites PhD and MPhil students to apply for a Mater Research Student Travel Award to attend a national or international conference. These competitive awards will assist towards conference expenses for each successful recipient.  There are two rounds per year.  To be eligible:

  1. You must successfully complete a confirmation of candidature milestone
  2. You must apply before your thesis submission
  3. You must be a student of Mater Research
  4. If travel award is being used to support conference attendance, you must be presenting at a conference.

Dr David Serisier Travel Award

To honour the memory of Dr David Serisier, a scholarship is offered to assist towards travel, accommodation and conference expenses for Higher Degree Research students to present Mater Research data at an international conference. To be eligible:

  • You must be a student of Mater Research
  • You must have successfully complete your second milestone
  • You must apply before submission of your thesis
  • You must be presenting research undertaken at Mater at an international conference
