Mater Research Director Operations receives Adjunct Associate Professorship

Monday 02 July 2018

Newly appointed Director of Operations at Mater Research Aimee Catalan has recently accepted the title of Adjunct Associate Professor at Mater Research Institute – The University of Queensland (MRI–UQ).

The honorary title formally recognises Aimee’s professional achievements and contributions in the fields of science communication and medical ethics. The title acknowledges the close relationship with the university for academics and researchers who work outside the university.

“More than anything,  for me the title is acknowledgement that research in the field of science communication, in particular, is something that can be advantageous to UQ’s Faculty of Medicine and to Mater Research,” Aimee said.

“Here at Mater Research, we’ve got biomedical researchers and clinical researchers doing fantastic research and it’s great to get that information out there. This title, a formality in some regards, puts a little stamp on the importance of communicating our research and successes in those areas.

“It is generally acknowledged that a hospital that conducts research is one that provides excellent care. At Mater, we have a long history of providing quality care for the community. Our investment into research gives us an extra edge which allows us to remain at the forefront in the industry, ensuring we can offer our patients the best, most up-to-date care.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the wonderful culture that is Mater. And I’m excited to get the message out there about the new ground Mater researchers are breaking every day, which allows us to make valuable contributions, not just to the Brisbane community, but to Australia and beyond.”
