Induction of labour - PINC BALLOON Study at Mater Mothers

Friday 18 May 2018

Mater Research is undertaking the largest study of induction of labour ever undertaken, here at the Mater Mothers’ Hospitals

In most pregnancies, labour will begin spontaneously between 37 and 42 weeks. If your labour has not commenced by 41 weeks you may be offered an induction.

Mater Research’s randomised PINC Balloon trial is comparing two of the most common methods for induction of labour; the use of Prostaglandin gel, and the use of a balloon catheter.

The PINC Balloon Study is for eligible women who have had an uncomplicated pregnancy and are being induced for reasons such as being  overdue (post dates),  or being  an older mum, or having  gestational diabetes.

Participating in this trial will mean being randomly allocated to commence the induction using either prostaglandin gel and remaining an in-patient, or having a balloon catheter and being able to go home for the day.

To register your interest, or for more information contact the Mothers’ & Babies Research Unit on 3163 1839 or email: PBStudy@mater.org.au.
