Cancer Pathology Research

The Cancer Pathology Research Group focuses on developing new tests that can predict which patients will respond to a particular treatment.

We use the diagnostic tissue and clinical experiences of thousands of patients with cancer treated at the Mater Hospital to develop new ways to predict how patients will respond to particular treatments. We also evaluate new potential drug targets in a diverse range of cancers.

The group has expertise in developing new tissue-based tests, including those that determine whether a specific target cell is present (antibody development and immunohistochemistry) and whether a specific drug target interacts with other proteins (proximity ligation assays). The group also have expertise in cohort building; developing cohorts of patients treated with specific therapies and associated statistical analyses.

We aim to develop new methods to individualise cancer diagnosis and care.
