Low or Negligible Risk (LNR) Research

Preparing your low risk application

Documents to include in your application include:

  • Protocol (see guide to writing a research protocol for more information)
  • Participant Information Sheets and Consent Forms 
  • Cover letter – what you are hoping to achieve by conducting this research – higher degree, change patient care, present or publish your findings
  • a CV of each researcher involved in the project at any Mater site (you must submit an updated CV for each researcher involved in the project to the HREC office every 2 years)
  • Data collection tool/s
  • Any other study documents
  • HREA or LNR application form (available through Online Forms)

Submitting your LNR application

Upon completion of your Online Forms application, you should upload all of your study documents and obtain the relevant signature/s. Only the Chief Principal Investigator(CPI) is required to sign except in the case of students (including those conducting research as part of a higher degree). In this case, supervisor/s must also sign the application.

Next, generate your submission code using the Online Forms application. Please note - this does not submit your application.

To submit your application to the Mater HREC office, you will need to email your application to  research.ethics@mmri.mater.org.au along with your submission code so that your application can be imported.

Prior to the commencement of your project, you are required to obtain site authorisation from Mater Research Governance
