Human Research Ethics Applications for QA, Audit or Service Evaluation projects

These types of projects are exempt from full HREC review and you do not need to complete an application form. Hard copies are also not required.

The following documents need to be emailed to the HREC Chairperson, Dr Brophy :

  1. Covering letter – what you are doing, why, how and what you expect to achieve and that you intend to publish or present your findings, why you don’t believe this project to be research or why you believe it to be exempt research
  2. Protocol / Project design
  3. Current brief CV
  4. Data collection tool/s
  5. Standards against which you are measuring

If the project is recognised not to be research in accordance with the definition in the National Statement, and complies with the NHMRC Quality Assurance Guidelines, a letter of exemption will be provided.

Other requirements

Prior to starting your project, you will require Privacy Office approval for the use of Mater data for a secondary purpose.
