Professor Allison Pettit

Director of Biomedical Research

Professor Allison Pettit is the Director of Biomedical Research at Mater Research and Professor of Medicine, Mater Research Institute-The University of Queensland.

Allison provides oversight, leadership, and guidance in the management and execution of biomedical research activities at Mater. She is involved in strategic planning, developing and executing organisational frameworks and supports improving clinical connectivity of biomedical research activity. Allison also plays a key role in people and culture at Mater Research, including recruitment and retention of talent, professional development including mentoring researchers across the career spectrum, improving funding competitiveness and promoting the impact of research at Mater. Promoting equity and diversity at Mater Research is a key responsibility. In addition to working with the Mater Research Advisory Board, Allison works with our partners: Mater Foundation, Mater Health, Mater Education, The University of Queensland - Faculty of Medicine, and the Translational Research Institute (TRI) to maximise collaboration and outcomes.

Allison also leads the Bones and Immunology Research Group at Mater with a team of researchers.

Allison is the author of more than 80 scientific publications with her research currently focused on skeletal physiology and pathology, bone and bone marrow regeneration, bone marrow transplantation and mitigation of cancer therapy side effects.

Outside of Mater, Allison is heavily involved in national and international peer review, is a member of The University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine Research Committee and a Member of the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes (AAMRI) Gender Equity and Diversity Committee.
