Congratulations to the latest winners of the Mater Research Publication Recognition Scheme - Dr Friederike Beker, Professor Vicki Flenady, Chloe Yap and Dr Yuanhao Yang.

The Publication Recognition Scheme aims to incentivise and reward outstanding scholarly achievements by Mater and Mater affiliated researchers, in the fields of biomedical and clinical research.

Two awards were presented in each research field for papers published between June and December 2021.

The winners in the clinical research category were Dr Friederike Beker for the study titled, ‘Effects on Growth of Smell and Taste of Milk During Tube Feeding of Preterm Infants: A Randomized Clinical Trial’ that was published in JAMA Pediatrics; and Professor Vicki Flenady for the publication in BJOG of her study, ‘My Baby's Movements: a stepped-wedge cluster-randomised controlled trial of a fetal movement awareness intervention to reduce stillbirths’.

The winners in the biomedical research category were Chloe Yap for the study titled ‘Autism-related dietary preferences mediate autism-gut microbiome associations’, published in Cell; and Dr Yuanhao Yang for his publication in Nature Communications of the study, ‘Investigating the shared genetic architecture between multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel diseases’.

The publication of study findings is an important and integral part of improving understanding of disease, knowledge sharing, and ultimately creating and delivering better models of healthcare.

From its beginnings in Mater Research, with the creation of Mater Group in 2020, the Publication Recognition Scheme is now open to all Mater People across the state.
