Cancer Biology Research

“We work closely with Mater clinicians to identify key areas of need and adapt our research to focus on where it is needed most.”

The Cancer Biology Research Group has a particular interest in aggressive malignancies, including cancers of the ovary, prostate, breast, bladder, pancreas and bowel.

By working closely with Mater clinicians, the group identifies key areas of need in these malignancies and adapts their research focus to where it is needed most.

The group’s work is underpinned by molecular, enzymology and cell biology approaches and disease relevant preclinical models of cancer, including cutting edge models that employ patient tumours. Through these approaches, they aim to identify cancer promoting molecular pathways and evaluate new approaches to better detect and treat cancer.

The group’s research into the role in cancer of cell surface receptor systems has led to clinical trials in ovarian and bladder cancer that are testing a new agent developed by the group.
